Ginger’s Visit to Our School
Recently, we had a special visitor at our Burghardt-Gymnasium. A young woman named Ginger from California, USA. She is currently studying physics in Stuttgart, which made it possible for her to come and visit us. Ginger came to tell us about her life in an American high school and about the election in the US.
She talked about the daily routine at her school, the subjects she took and how the American school system differs from ours. One exciting part she shared was how students often go to football games on Friday evenings after school to support their school team. These games are big events where students, teachers, and parents come together, showing lots of school spirit and cheering loudly.
Ginger gave us insight into the U.S. presidential election. She explained how voting works in the United States and how there’s a lot of advertising and campaigning to encourage people, especially young voters, to take part in the elections. Ginger also explained the Electoral College system, which determines the outcome of presidential elections through electoral votes assigned to each state. She mentioned that many people in the U.S. criticize this system because it can lead to a president being elected without winning the popular vote. Finally, she talked about the ongoing political influence of Donald Trump and how he continues to shape public opinion and political debates across the country.
We really enjoyed having Ginger with us. She was friendly, open, and happy to answer all our questions. Her visit gave us a great insight into American school life, culture, and politics and it helped us better understand the similarities and differences between Germany and the US.
